The Redeye 24 started as part of Carryology’s Maker’s Mystery Box Challenge — a video series where designers are given a mystery box of components and just one day to design and build a functional backpack. Matador’s lead designer, Sam, took the challenge, pulling a 24-hour all-nighter (with just 3 hours of sleep) to bring the Redeye to life. The result was too good to leave as a one-off prototype, so we refined it for production.

The Redeye 24 is a limited collaboration between Matador × Carryology, merging experimental design with real-world performance. Every feature — from its modular carry system to its intuitive pocketing — was refined from Sam’s original 24-hour build. It’s everyday carry, elevated by a one-of-a-kind origin story.

FIDLOCK® creates premium magnetic fasteners known for their smooth, secure, and intuitive feel. The Redeye 24 uses FIDLOCK® hardware on its detachable shoulder straps and sternum strap, allowing you to swap carry modes or connect straps with a simple magnetic snap.

Most clamshell bags open fully and spill everything out. The Redeye 24’s design uses limiter panels to create a controlled opening— giving you wide access to your gear while keeping contents contained. Inside, a divided main compartment makes organization easy without extra packing cubes.

The Redeye 24 features a modular design that lets you switch between three carry modes — backpack, sling, or duffel. Detachable shoulder straps connect with FIDLOCK® Snap hardware for fast, secure transitions, and each mode carries comfortably for all-day use.

That was the challenge Matador’s lead soft goods designer, Sam, faced in Carryology’s Maker’s Mystery Box Challenge.
Fueled by coffee and creative adrenaline, Sam worked through the night — catching only three hours of sleep in the 24-hour sprint. He sketched, patterned, and sewed until sunrise, bringing the Redeye 24 to life: a bag that carried beautifully, looked clean, and felt right.
The result wasn’t just a backpack — it was proof of what focused design can do.
So when fans started asking how they could get one, we knew we had to make it happen.
