WHY WE BUILT THE GLOBERIDER45

With global adventure travel, you never know exactly what’s in store. It could be a simple plane ride, or a 3 mile walk across town from the bus depot…in the rain. Dragging a roller bag up a muddy dirt road in Cambodia just doesn’t cut it, but we’ve always liked the clamshell organization they offer. We prefer the carry comfort and capability of hiking packs, but hate the lack of access and organization for travel.

We built the GlobeRider45 to combine the best of both worlds: The organization of a traditional travel bag with the carry performance and weather resistance of a mountaineering pack. We chose the best materials from the outdoor industry and included stowable straps, sealing zippers, plenty of handles, and external lash points so you can throw it around or tie it down in the harshest conditions. Versatility creates opportunity for adventure — GlobeRider45 was built for exactly that.

Is the GlobeRider45 carry-on size compliant?
The GlobeRider45 is a soft-sided pack that complies to carry-on size requirements for most airlines. Carry-on dimensions vary slightly by airline, which is one of many reasons we prefer a soft-sided pack over hard-exterior luggage. Even when fully packed, the back panel padding has enough give to conform to the luggage measurement apparatus for most airlines, both domestically and internationally.

What size laptop will the laptop pocket accommodate?
The fully padded laptop pocket is easily accessed from the top of the pack. It fits up to 16" laptops from all manufacturers.

What kind of frame or internal suspension does this pack have?
The GlobeRider45 features a backpacking-style internal suspension system. The contoured framesheet, lightweight aluminum framestay, and EVA foam distribute weight from the shoulder straps to the hip belt for superior balance and comfort.

Is the GlobeRider45 waterproof?
The GlobeRider45 is built from waterproof materials and has YKK® sealing zippers on all external pockets. This pack is designed to withstand light to medium precipitation for short periods. Outdoor coatings add further protection by letting water slick off the fabric.

How do the backpack straps and hip belt stow?
The GlobeRider45 backpack straps and hip belt easily stow into the back panel. Fully unzip the back panel zippers on the sides of the pack, clip the shoulder strap to the hip belt using the white arrows, and securely rezip the back panel zippers with the straps tucked neatly underneath. There is a diagram inside the right-side of the back panel for on-the-go instructions.

How big is the water bottle pocket?
The external water bottle pocket can fit the largest of water bottles, including 1-liter bottles and Nalgenes®.

What is the maximum and minimum sizes that the hip belt and sternum strap accommodate?
The waist belt minimum is 27" hip circumference and the waist belt max is 51" hip measurement. The sternum strap can get cinched down to where the shoulder straps are 3.5" apart on the users chest or can be loosened so the shoulder straps are 12.5" apart on the users chest

How long is the warranty?
The GlobeRider45 has a 3 year, Total-Protection-Warranty. GlobeRider45 is built to last—with the highest quality outdoor fabrics, bartack reinforced construction, and strategic patterning that guarantees long-term performance. Equipment in and out of warranty is eligible for free repairs. (Excludes European Union)

Great travel backpack

I'm loving it so far. Can pack everything I need for a 1 month trip and it doesn't feel too heavy. Most airlines have let me bring it with me inside the plane (some budget ones won't but checking it in is not a big deal)
If I have to point out one negative would be that the water bottle pocket on the side is too tight to fit any bottle unless the bag is mostly empty. Also the laptop pocket gets quite tight when the backpack is full making it a bit difficult to get it in and out at the security area.

Great, big bag!

I have found the GlobeRider to be a great fit for me. I usually travel carry-on only, both domestically, and for trips to Europe that are usually about 2 weeks long, but I prefer to have a bag that fits the maximum space and volume allowed rather than go the "minimal travel" route. As others have noted, this is a big bag, so, if you're into minimal travel, this probably isn't going to work for you. But, for me, this pack checks all the boxes: it's easy to pack (and the new zipper pulls have made it MUCH easier to open the main compartment), comfortable to carry even when fully packed-out (I'm a bit over 6 ft, so I appreciate that it rides a bit higher than other travel backpacks I've tried), the straps can be tucked away and protected when I do need to check it, the materials and construction are durable, and it makes use of fully carry-on dimensions while the compression straps make it easy to compress the bag when it's not fully packed. The only thing I wish it had was an inner sleeve for a tablet inside the laptop compartment, but that's a pretty minor thing. In the past several years, I have tried bags from Tortuga, Peak Design, Osprey, and Cotopaxi, but there was always something about each one a tried that made me keep looking for something else. With the GlobeRider, I think my search for the bag that best fits me has come to an end.
For the record: I haven't liked that the bags I've tried from Tortuga (the Outbreaker and the Travel Backpack Pro) because don't have the ability to hide the backpack straps. I found the Peak Design Travel Backpack 45L very uncomfortable to carry, and I didn't like the lack of organization. I also found the Osprey Porter 46 to be uncomfortable to carry, and the fact that the zippers of the main compartment didn't go all the way to the bottom to allow it to be completely opened made it harder for me to pack. Finally, the Cotopaxi Allpa 42 was very close to being what I was looking for, and I spent a lot of time considering it, but, in the end, it was just too floppy, and always felt like it was falling away from my back. The GlobeRider has a very similar organizational layout, and the rigidness of the GlobeRider meant it was easier to pack, easier to use while traveling, and much more comfortable to carry.

Love it , but not for me

This pack caught my attention . Everything about it seemed ideal to me. Expect the size of it. 45L is a lot but I thought I could make it work. Once I got it I loved everything about it. The quality. The design of it. And the comfort. Even being so big the comfort was expectational. Unfortunately for me it’s just too big as I work and travel a lot through planes the size of the bag becomes a big drawback. If matador could make a 30-35liter one it would meet all my needs. Still a great travel pack but just not right for me.
