Traveler Spotlight: Josh Guvi
Traveler Spotlight: Josh Guvi

First thing to know, it's hard to pin this guy down. After numerous emails and WhatsApp messages, we were able to catch up with our friend Josh Guvi to ask him about his life as a full time traveler. If you're interested in some travel inspiration, do yourself a solid and check out his photo and video work, he is a master behind the lens.

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in and around Vancouver, Canada. But now, I live on the road.

How long have you been a full-time traveler and creator?

Around 1.5 years ago I took a bit of a risk. I sold all my things, bought a one way ticket, and decided I wouldn’t come back home until I had travelled the whole world. I hadn’t really planned on becoming a content creator in that process, but through a stream of events, it happened overnight last March. Since then, I’ve been fully engaged in this lifestyle.

Where is your favorite place you have ever visited?

I’ve always had a deep connection to Northern Vietnam. I couldn’t tell you why or how, but that place changed my life. Something about the people there, the nature, and the overall experience, it gives me life. I’ve been many times and I don’t think I’ll ever stop going back.

Where is a place that’s still on your bucket list?

There’s still so many places I have to explore. It’s hard to point one out in particular but I’ve had an urge to go to Kazakhstan for the longest time now. That’s a spot that looks incredible to me.

How long have you been making films?

I’ve been involved filmmaking for around 4 years! After I graduated in Economics I wanted to do something a bit more creative for a while, so I bought a camera and it took off.

What are some critical items that you never travel without?

Of course my camera! But also my BetaLock. It’s crazy how often it comes in handy locking down my gear quickly and giving me that extra reassurance.

What your favorite Matador product and why?

I’m stuck between the GlobeRider45 and the SEG28 bags, both are incredible. They carry an absurd amount of my gear, they’re incredibly sturdy, and they can handle anything I’ve thrown at them. I’ve had few bags that can't last through a trip across Nepal or Mongolia, but these manage to handle every bump, scratch, and surprise I throw at them.

Give us one piece of travel advice for aspiring travelers?

The best travel experiences will be where you least expect them. We always try and follow what we see online or what is recommended to us, but really, travel is about exploring something new. The most amazing experiences are usually where you least expect, all that is required is that you just get out there and explore - then they’ll find you.
